Massey hoping to stay on a roll in Seattle

KENT, Wash. - NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster rookie Spencer Massey will be looking to pick up his first national event win of his young career during this weekend's Schuck's Auto Parts Nationals at Pacific Raceway just outside of Seattle. Massey, who is the new driver for drag race legend Gene Snow, has already collected two wins on the divisional level this year, and is currently sixth in national points.

The 23 year-old Massey and veteran Snow are excited about racing on a national event surface this weekend following their win on the divisional trail in Rusk, Texas, three weeks ago.

"We're both excited to get back out on a national event track and see what we can do," said Massey. "Winning in Rusk and running that 5.36 in qualifying there has the team pretty pumped up. We'd really like to get a win, but we just want to go rounds right now. We need to go as many if not more rounds than [Sean] O'Bannon or [Steve] Federlin right now. If we can do that, we might have a shot at doing well in national points."

Points and performance aside, just making it to the track has been a small victory in itself for Massey. Massey started the long trek from Texas to Washington on Sunday only to have truck problems in New Mexico later that day. Massey then had to be towed back to Dallas, then wait for a new truck to be delivered. He once again started the tow on Tuesday, burning the proverbial midnight oil to make it to Seattle by Thursday.

"It's been a tough drive, but I have me a few Full Throttles [energy drink] by my side," stated Massey. "It's always tough to fight problems on the way to a race like this, but every time I had any problems like this bracket racing, we usually ended up winning. Hopefully we can do the same this weekend."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions. Qualifying concludes Saturday morning, followed by round one of eliminations Saturday afternoon. Final eliminations conclude the event on Sunday.
