Massey hoping for year-end points rally in Pomona

POMONA, Calif. - NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster rookie standout Spencer Massey will be looking to jump back into the top five nationally during this weekend's NHRA finale, the Automobile Club of Southern California Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. Massey, who clinched the Division 4 Championship earlier in the year, is currently tied for seventh, is a mere 23 points out of third.

Massey, 24, of Ft. Worth, Texas, hopes consistency will be the key to a strong finish. Massey will start earning points if he can make it out of the first round. He will need to make it to the finals to overtake Duane Shields for third place nationally.

"We just need to go rounds this weekend," said Massey. "We have a car that can run the numbers to win on the national level, we just need to concentrate on not beating ourselves, and not smoking the tires. We had the car running pretty consistent back in Dallas, we just need to get back to that form."

"We would really like to get back into the top five," Massey continued. "We need to make the finals to get ahead of Shields, but it also depends on what the other racers do. Hopefully we can get the win and the points will fall where they may."

Qualifying begins on Thursday for the alcohol cars and will conclude on Friday. Eliminations begin on Saturday with round one and will conclude on Sunday.
