National points leader Massey set to compete in All-Stars event

JOLIET, Ill. - Defending NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Spencer Massey is looking forward to representing Division 4 during this weekend's Jegs Sportsman All-Stars event held in conjunction with the Torco Race Fuels Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway just outside of Chicago. The race within a race pits the top racers from each of NHRA's seven geographical divisions and the previous year's champion together to battle for the Jegs All-Stars crown.

Massey, 24, of Ft. Worth, Texas, is excited about competing in his first All-Stars event.

"It's pretty exciting to be a part of the All-Stars race," said Massey. "You just look at the list of racers that have been a part of this event, and it's an honor just to be in that group. We had a pretty good race last weekend in Topeka where we ran real well despite losing in the second round. Anytime you qualify No. 1 at a national event it's an accomplishment with the level of competition that's out there. The car is showing a lot of potential. We're sitting on the national points lead, so hopefully we can keep the momentum going and make a few final rounds this weekend."

Driving a car that is known to qualify near the top of the pack at a fast track like Route 66 Raceway, Massey is excited about the potential for big numbers this weekend.

"Joliet is known for being fast," stated Massey. "Of course we'll have to go up against [Bill] Reichert this weekend, who has a bad hot rod right now. I think the new 96% nitro rule may have leveled the field for both the A/Fuelers and blown cars, so hopefully we can make up some ground on him. Nearly everyone in the All-Stars field has a shot at winning both events. Not to mention there are a lot of good cars not in the All-Stars field to contend with on Sunday."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the Top Alcohol cars. The Jegs All-Star event will be contested on Saturday with three elimination rounds. Final eliminations for the Torco Race Fuels Route 66 Nationals will conclude the event on Sunday.
