Anyone who has any interests whatsoever in joining the Southern Floppers Funny Car Association needs to speak up now. I’m working up some proposals for some track owners in the TX, LA, OK, MO, KS area.

If I get enough interested teams to offer a full 8 car A&B field, then that’s how we will proceed. If not, then I will work it as a match featuring 2 or 4 cars or other options that we can support with members. We must be able to deliver what we offer. Nitro and alky welcome.

    RULES (tentative):

    1. 135" Max wheel base, center steer, funny car type chassis
    2. Nostalgia style, Pre-1982 body. US Manufacturer bodies only. No extensions on front of cars to trip lights. No excessive spill plates or aero modifications allowed. This is in the sole opinion of the rules committee (submit your designs for review).
    3. All engines allowed, but on 426 style Hemi engine with 14-71 the blower limited to 35% overdrive
    4. Roots-type supercharger mandatory, Maximum size 14/71
    5. All chassis must be certified
    6. Driver's license must be Advanced E.T. or faster
    7. Fuel: Alcohol or nitro, no nitrous
    8. Blower restraints
    9. Up to date seat belts, HANS Device, highly recommended
    10. Engine Diaper
    11. Fire extinguisher in tow vehicle
    12. Four wheel brakes recommended
    13. If oil lines pass by blower belt, a guard is mandatory
    14. Maximum Three disk non-lock up clutch
    15. Maximum fuel line diameter = 1 1/2 inches
    16. Ignition = Single Mag (Any Type)
    17. Fuel Pump = One fuel pump (single rotor or gear)
    18. On board fire system highly recommended
    19. Dues $150 per year. Must be paid 30 days before the first event you plan to compete in.

Please let me know your thoughts on the rules as stated above.

I need some feedback from anyone interested in order to make these proposals. By in any case let me know by the end of this month if you’re in.

Track operators are going to be looking at next season’s events shortly (if not already) and this type of deal is one that they need all the advance notice they can get in order to work it in this year’s schedule and budget.

Call me, email me or throw rocks as you see me going by, but let me know if you can run with us.

The preliminary Southern Floppers website, (www.southernfloppers.com), will be up and running soon. I am shooting to have it up before Christmas.

    Bodies

There have been a couple inquiries regarding allowing newer bodies to run with us during our inaugural year. I would not have a problem with that provided that everyone understood that effective the first event of our second year (2012 season) all bodies would have to be in compliance with our 1982 and earlier requirement. I don’t want to prevent good people from getting started with us over a body style non-conformance issue, but I want it very plain that we are a CLASSIC funny car association and that is the goal and will be a firm requirement in 2012. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Please contact me at my email:
