    Hiya'll...

We just bought a brand new Simpson 7 point harness for the Nitro F/C and we're having some serious discussions about the "correct" way to mount the additional bottom straps. Noone on this side of the big pond seems to know...

Do the bottom straps go over or between the legs? Angles? Distances?

Are there any mounting descriptions out there? Links?

The documentation that came with the belt doesn't say how to properly mount it. Only up to a 6-point...

    Thanx for a great forum...

That just don't sit right with me... If I look at http://sstmotorsports.com/inc/sdetail/246 (wich was linked earlier in a thread on this topic) The restraints go between and under the leg, atleast the way I see it...
The simspon-link just shows 6-point between legs. Just like our documentation :(

I know the UK tech inspector has approved over-leg installation but I'm not sure this is the way it was intended. I really want to keep my driver as safe as possible...

Has anyone talked to an NHRA/IHRA tech about this? Isn't it mandatory on all Alky and nitro FC's in the US now?
    Cheers

    belts

I've been using Impact 7 point belts for a couple years. the 2 added belts are under my legs and are used in conjunction with the anti submarine (crotch) belt to stabilize the pelvis. think of it this way, if you have them over your legs and then took out the center strap, what good would the other 2 be? Mine attach just forward of the lap belt mounts and come out of the seat under my thigh, but I have seen some mounted to another crossmember under the seat bolted right through.(trust me you won't even notice with all that suit on) Good luck and be safe!

I went to ISP in december and they showed me some mounted in Ashley Force's roll cage. They do not go between the legs, that would restrict exiting. I built a 8"X3" 4130 mount to move my crotch mount further under myself and on the corners of this rectangle I made mounts to thru bolt my 2 straps of the 7 point with. Wish I could draw or even explain better but the guys at ISP were very helpful to me so ya might call them.

As per D.T., basically you sit on it. The crotch strap hangs down as normal, but the side straps keep it centered. When you sit down, you pull it up as normal.
If you tried to get it over your legs, you would have to step into the belts like wiggleing into your bikini. Bad deal!

We just installed a set of Taylor 7 points on my TA/FC for Jonn Lombardo, Jr. The object of them is to keep you from submarining out of the belts in a wreck.

The attaching point for the extra harness is the same location as the lap belts and YOU SIT ON THEM. They loop around with the crotch strap buckle and pull up between your legs along with the crotch strap when fastened. If you put them over the top of your legs you'd burn to death before you got out.

    Thanks for all the replies...

How to use these belts are settled and I think a whole bunch of European racers are going to be in trouble if they crash since they are pulling their straps on the outside and over the leg. I knew that just couldn't be right.

One problem still persists though. Since wrap-around is no longer allowed in Funny Car and space is extremly limited under the seat. Can someone please post or e-mail me a pic or 2 of the mounting tabs/belt anchor points. Did you put new bars in? I have a problem with pulling the lapbelts all the way to the bottom framerail and mounting right on the upper rail will make the anchoring points portrude through the seat and shafe on the hips of the driver... Yes even through the suit :( All help/ideas are welcome...

    Cheers
