With 18 of the baddest Alcohol Funny Cars on the planet, we really didn't know if our team would have a shot at qualifying or not. We had some blower issues right out of the box and missed the 1st qualifying round with some of the best air of the weekend. We made the 2nd round that afternoon. Dad fattened her up and she ran a pretty smooth 6.09 @ 230 MPH that put us in 13th at the time. With a paid match race the following week, we were not going to run another qualifying pass and we watched from the stands with fingers crossed as our 6.09 was good enough for the 15th spot and we made the big show!

1st round we were up against the very talented Kon Rodz racing team from Canada (#2 qualifier). With Cassie Simonton driving and tuned by the great Randy Anderson we knew we had to be on our game if they hiccuped. We decided if she was out on us we would shut our ride down just after the 1/8th and save the parts. Dad had a slight advantage off the starting line when Cassie shook hard. I watched as Dad drove through some tire shake of his own but never lifted. It was AWESOME to see our win light come on and take an NHRA round win again! Dad ran a 6.14 @ 229 MPH and it was just good enough for the win! Dad would later say he was waiting for Cassie to thunder past him around the 1,000 foot mark and he was ready to lift, but he didn't see or hear her and he figured he was too close to the stripe to lift so he stayed in it! (the entire time my big butt is screaming, " DON'T LIFT! DON'T LIFT!)

We would go on to the second round running a soft 6.15 @ 228 MPH to the eventual race runner-up Jonnie Lindburg from Sweden. Cool bunch of young guys over there and they did a great job running a 5.64!

It was an outstanding race weekend for Shooting Star Motorsports and we are really looking forward to the tv coverage in a week! Three FAT CLEAN passes and never burned the cadium off the plugs. Hoping to come up with some funds before the September Charlotte race so we can lean on her a little.

Thanks to Paradise Golf Carts, Custom Sawing, The Forum of Salisbury, JR's Auto & Truck Repair and 704 Customs.
