I used Rich's classic transport in Oceola Neb. to haul my dragster from Brookings Oregon to Kansas city. Rich did it as a back haul for a very fare price and I didn't have to crate anything or worry about it. GREAT SERVICE DOOR TO DOOR!!!!

Next best might be to find a local company to you with a dock that ships alot with a common carrier as there pricing will be 50 to 60 % less than you offer them a couple of free tickets to your next event for letting you use there dock and just pay them for the freight bill, but you'l still need it crated pretty good in Salem and a dock there to pick it up from as it's the residential pick up's that kill the prices! Hope this helps??
    Thanks,
    kent

I really thought about going to get it myself but it is 2500+ miles one way. I would actually prefer to do it that way. I am not really good at standing back and watching somebody else doing the work, it's easier to just jump in myself. But by the time I paid for gas, food and motels along the way it is cheaper to have it shipped. I went online and called one of those freight brokers and they found a shipper to ship it for 904$. Now if it gets here in decent shape that would be way far out. Time will tell. Dave Germain

Ok, change two, paragraph one. The original contracted freight company didn't even show up before they cancelled the shipment. Thankfully the freight broker hadn't given them the money yet. They told me they won't be using "Old Dominion Freight Lines" anymore. Now we have a different company in line. It costs a little more but maybe these guys will actually look at it before they weasel out? One thing I have figured out in life is that people who treat me well will get my wholehearted endorsement but those that don't, won't. Dave Germain

Dave, We found out that the only way to ship body's is through custom(enclosed) car carriers. We had a friend use yellow frieght once to ship a nostalgia FC body it arrived unrepairable! Most custom carriers get $1.00 to 1.50 per mile. we use Reliable Carriers in Michigan. www.reliable-carriers.com

I appreciate everyone's help with this. years ago I bought a body from Riggeals when they built funny car bodies. It was shipped by Yellow with no problems at all. I suppose a certain amount of this has to do with individual truckers. Maybe some are more conscientous than others? But I know that before I spent 2500 to have it shipped I would have driven there myself. I priced it out and I could have done it for between 1500 and 2000. Personally that would have been my preference. No better way to babysit my children than to do it myself. Sorry, a little of my obsessive/compulsive coming out... lol. Dave Germain

    Dave,
I had a Funny Car Roller sent to my front door from Ohio to Southern CA for $1,000.00. The guys name is Larry Beachler and he has a fully enclosed transporter and travels anywhere. You may have to wait for him to fill a full load and get on his list of stops, but I was very happy with the service.

Call this guy if you still the job done.

Wahoo, the nightmare continues. yellow freight called this morning to advise they wouldn't haul it unless it was more fully crated. They said they were a less than load company so things would be stacked on top of it and all around it. They said they didn't want to damage it. To their credit they said that in advance rather than after they had trashed it. I do appreciate that. years ago I bought a new body from Riggeals and it didn't have anymore crating around it than Santo had done. I shipped a body to Switzerland last year to Urs Embacher, it didn't have too much more crating around it either. To say that I am not enjoying this process would be an understatement. Now I get to fight with the freight brokers to get my paid in advance money back. I think Jim Phillips said it best- go get it yourself. It wasn't cheaper in money but would definitely be cheaper in ulcers. Dave Germain

most company drivers dont really want to mess with it and companys dont want to be responsable for it you might be better off to try and find a owner operator to haul it on a back haul but you do need to crate it up good because when i picked up my new mustang body on a open trailer trying to save a little money instead of the enclosed trailer from hairys glass and going back to southern indiana the way hairs had it crated up wasnt very good i had several cracks when i got it home but i do bodywork but i wasnt happy with it but at least i went and got it myself i just didnt want to depend on some one else to take care of my new body because i couldnt afford another one if something happened to it sometime its cheaper in the long run just to do it your self at least you get it done right and on time
