I have a 540 chevy, BME rods, 871 BDS 40% OD - 23# max boost, bird catcher alcohol, 11:1, big chief, timing 25* MSD 10. Just want to optimize this combo without spending any more $, Best et is 6.70 @199 in TD trim with PG. 2000#

    cam intake
    duration @ .050: 274*
    open 25* BTDC
    close 69* ADTC
    cam lift: .430
    valve lift: .731

    exhaust
    duration @ .050: 282*
    open 77* BTDC
    close 25* ATDC
    cam lift: .430
    valve lift: .731

    lobe center: 114*

I currently shift at 7400...never had opportunity to test so before I tried something different, I wanted to get some opinions on about how high I could possibly go.

Also if you have a better cam recommendation, I am "all ears"

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your heads and intake are a good match. In 1980 I ran the almost the same BBC combo you have (-100 cu in) w/ clutch and lenco 3 spd; so i am not sure my shift rpm would be relevant. I agree with Jim Phillips on being careful on the shift rpm. One thing is still the same....as long as you have a race car you will spend $$$. I think that beast of yours could run 6.50s at 200+ w/o killing itself. Good luck!

    shift

You have a LOT more power available. crank at least 30 degrees of timing in it. 32 max for big chiefs. You will have to retard on the starting line. We never ran a blower that small with chiefs but we got huge gains going from 7800 to 8500 rpm shift with a glide.Used to rattle the tires at the shift and the higher rpms keeps it happy.
If you get a bigger blower or high helix it will fly.
We use a superman 14 and shift at 88-9000.
We run low 4's at 2900lbs with a big chief convertor promod.
