To back up Will's points from other threads, can someone remind me when the last blown car ran 5.21?

I'll be waiting a while for the answer.....

Wasnt to many years ago (maybe 4)that Duane ran 5:30 at Englishtown with his BAD set-up. I'll search the stats for some et's and correct myself if i'm off here.

    Wolf,I dont beleve anyone has had a 5:21 .

Here is a correction on the above post.
2002 was the year Shields Racing achieved their best results. With a win in Houston, followed by a win in Englishtown, New Jersey where Duane made the quickest run ever by a blown alcohol dragster at 5.263 seconds at 269 mph, setting the National ET record. Duane won the two Car Craft All Star Award for Top Alcohol Dragster, and won the Division 7 Championship and finished #2 in the National Championship.

I imagine that Duane switched to a/fd due to the advantage that he saw over the blown combo- guess he didn't perceive any equallity between the 2 combos----

    Parity

You can't please everyone all the time. That is the bottom line. I don't care what side of the fence you are on, a person can tweak the numbers to make them say whatever you want. What I mean is you pull the data which favors your side of the argument. I do understand when you first look at the fastest numbers, it is favored to the A/Fuel cars. My bottom line debate is the blown cars could run 20's with enough money. This is no different then other types of motorsports. If the team has enough dyno time, parts, and real world track time, you can make it happen. My personal feeling is a few cars that would probably be running in the low 30's and a few 20's have either moved on or are running A/Fuel.

The debate will NEVER be closed.

It will take more than money to run 5.20's with a blown car, It will also take a rule change. More blower, more cubes, less weight. I don't think money is an issue with the O'Bannon team. So i can't buy into your statement.

they tell us Thats not urine thats rain.

Clayton. Up to today I count seventeen runs in the twenties so far this season alone for the A Fuel cars. You cant possibly be serious that in the parity debate those numbers are "tweaked"??

Its not just a money thing anyone who is really involved in racing knows money alone wont buy 5.20s in a blown car. The O'Bannon clan spends a ton of time and money in R&D and the best parts money can buy. Yes a blown car will run a mid to high twenty if they are in the wright place at the wright time. It is going to take 1400' or better air and a good surface. It would be nice for Chicago to be cold so we could see the best number Riechrt and O'Bannon could post and end all the what if crap. My guess Riechrt 5.19 and O'Bannon 5.27. At least then we could stop talking about if the blown cars ran what they used to and just get down to the problem at hand. But as we all know NHRA is going to do nothing any time soon. Good luck to all lets see how the cards unfold.

    Money

I will agree that only money in itself, can't purchase speed. It takes money, determination and experience in some cases. What is the difference between a Force team member and the funny cars that quilify towards the bottom of the ladder? In most cases, money. If Bill "Reichert" was still in a blown car, or a few other teams, they would be running some 20's and for the most part, would not be having this continual debate. I remember back when Stark was running the A/Fuel combination and he would run a great number if the combination and weather was perfect. It would be way ahead of everyone else. It did not seem like a big deal at the time, because it was hard to back it up in the same event.

I will jump the fence for a moment.
Obviously this site in of itself is not going to help the parity debate. Will has some ideas he feels will help bring a perceived leveling to the parity of the TAD class. What has been done to get NHRA to make this happen? Is it realistic? Lucas Oil is the class sponsor. Has anyone talked to them about pushing NHRA into a change? Some of these things may have been done, but if not, it would be good to get someone to look into it.

    research and DEVELOPMENT

everyone talks about how the blown cars need to r&D - which stands for research and DEVELOPMENT

a blown engine lives and dies by how much air it can cram in the cylinder.

    1. You can't develop a new supercharger - there's a better blower (C blower) that has been out since 1997
    2. You can't develop a new head design - only slight modifications are allowed

so essentially the same combination has been in 'development' for going on for over 10 years with minimal room under the rules for development.

pro stock is a class where major advances are few and far between with big 'r&d' budgets. look how long it takes them to gain a tenth with their large r&d programs.

the o'bannon team is doing a fine job of carrying the blown flag into battle, as bad as they are, their only hope on sunday was the a/fuel cars missing the tuneup. the difference was the a/fuel cars that were there weren't running what they were CAPABLE of. obannon and demke were running about as quick as a blown car was CAPABLE of.

as far as twisting the results - it takes a lot more twisting to cover up that tenth. let's analyze the 'two blown cars in the final' argument. what about the semi's - was demke's 5.70 to massey's 5.79 blown dominance?

with the current rules, someone with a half a million dollars more than likely is going to pick up the phone and call conway or boggs or gallant.

I don't think another percentage reduction for the a/fuelers is the answer!

that half million dollar r&d budget could be reduced to about $20,000 for a c blower. - if the rules allowed.

    quote: was demke's 5.70 to massey's 5.79 blown dominance?

Demke shook hard and shifted early then blew up at 1000 ft
Massey had #5 out from the hit...

    both missed the tune...
