Mission Race- Very Important to Shawn Cowie

The Division 6 Lucas Oil BC Nationals was very important for Top Alcohol Dragster driver, Shawn Cowie. It is his home event, it is the first event in Division Six and it is an event he really wants to win. He has been the runner-up the last two seasons and to win at home is a big deal. Those are all big reasons to want the win.

The biggest reason though is the team’s aspirations to win the division and to challenge for the National title. Even with a win, if they are lucky enough, it will be a huge uphill battle all season long, as there are at least ten solid teams out there who want it just as bad as Cowie.

With great sea level air, another goal is to get the car into the 5.20 second range for the first time. “I’m pretty excited to be at our home track and I am stoked about our 5.33 second run from the Thursday test,” stated Cowie. “That really bodes well for this weekend for sure.”

On Friday after round one of qualifying, Cowie ran a 5.37 elapsed time, to claim the provisional pole position.”We have been experimenting with a new Injector hat from Jeff Burnett,” stated team crew chief Bill Moore. “It works great, but there is a slight flatness issue that we have to get sorted out to make a better seal.”

For round two, they put their proven PSI hat back on the car, and the result was almost identical to round one, a 5.372 ET at 268.09 mph. For the final qualifying session in the heat of the day, the car was like a bracket racer- running another 5.37. Unfortunately, Brandon Johnson, who was the car in the other lane in this session, ran 0.01 seconds quicker than Cowie, putting him into the number one spot, dropping Cowie to second. He will face Ashley Bart in round one.

Cowie Racing would like to thank their sponsors, including Mundies Towing, Lordco Auto Parts, United Petroleum and Kendall Oil.

The Cowie’s also want to thank their hard working crew on the team including crew chief/tuner Bill Moore, Harry Campbell, Mike Bayko, Shirleen Moore and Taylor Heritage.
