    Cowie Captures LODRS Event Title

Third year Top Alcohol Dragster driver Shawn Cowie and the Cowie Racing team capped off one of the best Divisional event weekends ever at Mission Raceway. Fantastic weather, good crowds all three days, an increase in car counts (despite the economic climate) and a final round in TAD against a fellow Canadian owned car.

In what could be called one of the most consistent and dominating performance in recent memory by a supercharged TAD, Cowie ripped through the field on Sunday with three runs quicker than 5.35 seconds. In round one Shawn faced off against Ashley Bart. He captured the round win recording a 5.31 elapsed time, next to Bart’s blower banging 7.88 ET.

In round two he would face off against the guy who defeated him in the final last year, Division 6 champ Joey Severance. As the cars left the starting line, Severance took a slight 0.006 second reaction time advantage- it would be the only time in the race he lead. Tuner Bill Moore set up Cowie’s machine to a career best ET- a solid 5.29 seconds at 271mph.

The final round would be history making in Canadian drag racing, as it would pit not only two Canadian based cars in the final, but two BC cars, and to be more precise, two cars that were based less than 50 miles apart. Chilliwack’s Hugh Ridley’s TAD, with Dale Carlson driving, would face Burnaby based Ron Cowie’s TAD, with his son Shawn strapped in the seat, in an all Blown Alcohol Dragster final round.

The final was a lot closer for the first 300 feet than the younger Cowie would have liked, as Carlson had an eye dropping .003 light to Shawn’s lazy .090 reaction time. However, from 300 feet on, it was all Cowie, as Carlson’s car fell off the pace and Cowie kept on trucking, running 5.330 seconds with another 270 mph speed on the reader board.

The home town win, the 5.2 ET and the 85 points on the board, all made this weekend’s event, one to remember.

Shawn and Dad Ron want to thank their sponsors Mundies Towing, United Petroleum, Lordco Auto Parts and Kendall Oil. The crew did an awesome job all weekend long and they include crew chief/tuner Bill Moore, Harry Campbell, Mike Bayko, Shirleen Moore and Taylor Heritage.

Shawn now sits number three nationally with 339 points 45 points out of the lead with two races in hand over Duane Shields. Divisionally he is well out in front with 255 points compared with Carlson who has 96 points.
There is no rest for the team, as today they hit the road for the Topeka Kansas National event this weekend.
