O’Bannon looking to stay on a roll in Woodburn

WOODBURN, Ore. – Current NHRA Division 6 Top Alcohol Funny Car points leader Sean O’Bannon and the Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV’s team will be looking to stay on a roll during this weekend’s Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Ore. O’Bannon has reached the finals of the last three events he has competed in.

O’Bannon, 29, of Ontario, Calif., hopes to keep the momentum going this weekend.

“We’re going to try to keep the success we’ve had recently going,” said O’Bannon. “Just because we’ve done good at the past few races doesn’t guarantee us anything this weekend in Woodburn. We’re just going to take it one run at a time and go from there.”

“We’re in a tight points battle with Clint Thompson and Brian Hough,” O’Bannon continued. “They’re not far behind us, so if we slip just a little, they’ll be there to take the lead back. We haven’t put this Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV’s Monte Carlo in a winner’s circle yet, but as long as we keep going rounds and picking up points, we should be good.”

As his teammate Alexis De Joria has been getting better acclimated to driving the 3000 horsepower Funny Cars, O’Bannon looks forward to having both Tequila Patrón/Jack O’Bannon Racing entries in a final.

“She’s come a long way this year,” stated O’Bannon. “We’re all really pulling for her. She had some success at this track last year, so hopefully she can build on that this weekend. It would be a big deal for us to get both of these cars in a final. This weekend would be just fine with us.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
