O’Bannon looking to stay hot in Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Hot off a win at the Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener in Phoenix last month, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Sean O’Bannon and the Forest River RV’s/Jack O’Bannon Racing team will be looking for more success during this weekend’s SummitRacing.com Nationals at ‘The Strip’ at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. O’Bannon qualified second at this event last year.

O’Bannon, 30, of Ontario, Calif., cites consistency will be the goal of the team this weekend. O’Bannon enters the event ninth in national points.

“We just want to find some consistency,” said O’Bannon. “That’s what we did in Phoenix, and we were able to pick up the win. If we can make a couple of good laps and get in the groove; that should put us in position to do well on Sunday. Ultimately we want to have a good showing for the Forest River RV’s reps that will be guests of the team this weekend.

“Plus its Vegas,” added O’Bannon. “It’s a fun race to come run. The track here is one of the best in the country. With all the heavy hitters here, it should be a slugfest. It’s going to be fun.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations begin with round one on Saturday afternoon, followed by final eliminations on Sunday.
