O’Bannon looking to stay hot in Seattle

KENT, Wash. – After reaching the finals of his past two races, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Sean O’Bannon and the Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV’s team will be looking to stay hot during this weekend’s Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Pacific Raceways just outside of Seattle. With cool conditions forecasted for the weekend, O’Bannon and his Sam Shockley lead team are excited about the performance potential of a great racetrack coupled with the cool Northwest air.

O’Bannon, 29, of Ontario, Calif., reached the final of the recent O’Reilly Summer Nationals in Topeka, Kan., where he lost a close race to current national points leader Steve Harker. The weekend prior to that, he lost a close decision in the final of the Mission, B.C., Division 6 event to current Division 6 points leader Clint Thompson. O’Bannon enters this weekend’s event tied for second place with Brian Hough.

“We’re all excited to get back out on the track,” said O’Bannon. “Everything is coming together for this team. We really like this new Chevy Monte Carlo body we switched to. It’s supposed to be pretty cool up there all weekend, so it should be a fast race. It was pretty cool up there last year and there were some big numbers put on the board. We’re in a pretty tight points race with Clint and Brian, so this is an important race for us to do well at. Hopefully all goes well and we can put this Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV’s Monte Carlo in a winner’s circle.”

The team has an extra incentive to do well at this race as part of a deal his father and Team Owner Jack O’Bannon gave the team.

“When we were mapping out where we were going to go race this year, my dad didn’t want to go to Indy,” O’Bannon explained. “He said it’s too far and too long of a race. But he did tell us if we went to three finals before then we could go. Well we have two finals so far, so if we can get another, looks like we’ll be racing Indy.”

Qualifying will be ran Friday evening for the alcohol cars with final eliminations concluding the event Saturday evening.
