    Sean Strong in Semi-Final Finish

ANAHEIM, CA — Sean Bellemeur was anxious to get right back in the seat of the consistent Meer Homes Top Alcohol Funny Car after last week’s uncharacteristic opening round loss at Infineon Raceway. However, returning to the same track could not guarantee similar atmospheric conditions for crew chief, Bob DeVour and car owner, Ron Meer. As qualifying opened on Friday, 18 cars battled for eight positions. Sean reeled off a nice 5.66-second run at 256 mph right out of the trailer, which landed them in the number six qualifying spot. DeVour noted, “Ron and I have made the right calls lately and we’ve managed to give Sean a good car. We’re cautiously optimistic but we’ve also seen reality strike when you least expect it.”

The team prepped for Saturday’s action with differing conditions early and the car responded well with a 5.65 at 252.95 mph. Sean mentioned, “After a good talk with Bob and the crew, I’ve put last weekend behind me. The level of competition out here is top notch and everybody has the power necessary to win rounds. I’m fortunate to be with a good group of guys who stay focused but still have fun all at the same time.” The final attempt ended in tire smoke, though valuable information from the run demonstrated how much was too much. The Meer Homes car ended qualifying in the sixth position.

Sean opened Eliminations with a stellar .017 reaction time, coupled with a 5.64 at 254 mph to win Round 1 handily. Round 2 saw both racers record 5.60 runs, but Sean came up short by only .0045-seconds. All in all, the Meer Homes Team had a good three-race stretch and looks forward to freshening the car for its next assault. Ron Meer Motorsports sends special thanks to Randy Anderson, Chase Knight at Crane Cams, Gary and David Sumek of Lenco, Steve and John at Medlen Motorsports, all their friends at GRP, and Mike Gruber from Valvoline.
