Good Numbers for the Meer Homes Car

ANAHEIM, CA — The Fram Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, would offer Ron Meer’s crew the opportunity to sort out some issues that caused an early exit just a week ago in Seattle. Though you can’t exactly call it a set back, crew chief, Bob DeVour was ready to get after it for the first qualifying session and give Sean Bellemeur a car that was capable of running well. Comfortable conditions provided racers with a good outlook as the first session began and Sean thundered to the second-best time of 23 cars, recording a 5.61 at over 255 mph. DeVour and Meer set the car up in similar fashion for the second attempt and Bellemeur racked up a 5.60 at just under 252 mph.

Bob DeVour mentioned, “With so many good cars here, it was important for us to get a handle on this thing early. We couldn’t afford to get behind, so we’re satisfied with those numbers.” The third and final qualifying session on Saturday yielded equally good times, as Sean guided the car to a nice 5.64 at 255 to secure the number six spot. Car owner, Ron Meer stated, “History shows that the quickest car doesn’t always win races. Bob and I would rather have a consistent car and we’re pleased with what the computer is showing us.”

In Round 1, Bellemeur rolled into the beams alongside Ken Kraus, who parlayed a .05-second starting line advantage into an upset over Sean. Having won countless rounds this year on sharp starting line reactions, it’s no surprise that somebody took a chance at Bellemeur. Bob noted, “If you have the quickest car, everybody takes a shot at you. If your driver cuts a good light each round, everybody takes a shot at you. Sean’s a very good driver and Ron and I are really proud of this whole team. We just got beat today.” The Meer Homes car returns to Infineon Raceway next week for the Pacific Division 7 event.

Ron Meer Motorsports sends special thanks to Randy Anderson, Chase Knight at Crane Cams, Gary and David Sumek of Lenco, Steve and John at Medlen Motorsports, all their friends at GRP, and Mike Gruber from Valvoline.
