Back to Basics for Team Meer

ANAHEIM, CA — After four final-round appearances for the Meer Homes Camaro Top Alcohol Funny Car, a minor set-back occurred during the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Las Vegas. A week earlier, performance and luck were both riding with Sean Bellemeur, Meer’s talented new driver for 2007. However, a week is like eternity in Las Vegas, where fortunes can turn to misfortunes with the roll of the dice.

Crew chief, Bob DeVour said, “We went up there thinking the track was much better than it actually was and put a ton of clutch in it, figuring it would hold.” Continuing, Bob added, “It shook the tires really bad and we never really got it headed in the right direction after that.” Team Meer was not alone, as 20 cars showed up for the eight-car field. Other teams that missed the set-up included sponsored hitters, national event winners and more. Car owner, Ron Meer concluded, “We’ve raced long enough to know there are no guarantees at this level. It’s a long season and we’re pleased to be off to a good start.”

This week’s event scheduled for Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway puts the Meer Homes car close to family, friends and associates, as Ron Meer is currently developing a large-scale housing project not far away. Though track conditions are an unknown quantity, DeVour expects to sneak up on his tune-up. Bob explained, “This track is popular for the outlaw doorslammers and they also ran some Nostalgia fuel cars a few weeks ago. We don’t expect to see a great deal of rubber to help us plant the tires, so we’ll have to see what it’ll hold.” Coming into this event, Sean “Gone” Bellemeur is ranked fourth in the national point standings and he’s currently third in the Pacific Division 7 tally.
