    Hi Guys,
I need your opinion on a blower screen.
Is there a point when they should NOT be run?
(like at a particular blower size or boost amount,, etc?)

I know of several guys running them (not my combo however, 6-71's and 8-71's).

I broke a belt and a piece of the belt went into the motor hanging the valves open, etc. I mentioned this to a few folks and they said that a screen on my combo would NOT be a good idea while others say it will be fine.

Combo is a 14-71 HH retro Littlefield on a 500 cu hemi, if it matters.

    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't run my blower W/O a screen. Not worth the gamble IMO.

    Blower screen

Actually I should have asked this before.
Who makes a screen for a Big and Ugly?
When I called Good Vibs they didn't have one.

Or should I just make one?
If so, how big should the holes be?

    Thanks again.

I understand that a screen will restrict flow somewhat, but would it create some type of turbulance also?

I sucked one right in the blower on my last car. It made a mess. I don't use them anymore.

    Blower Screen

    Kenny and Rick,

That is EXACTLY what I was told would happen if I put one on.

I don't know what is worse, getting stuff thrown in the engine or sucking the screen in.

I agree that sounds odd. I dont think you could suck our screen in at all. I also agree that having a screen [ a good one ] is much better than sucking in belt parts, rocks, or other trash found at most strips.

I think to suck one in or down the mesh is way to small. Ours has 1/4 inch openings at least.

What is the point of having a screen then? i mean surely 1/4 inch sized whatever, is going to tear up the blower too isn't it?

Not trying to be a smartass or anything just asking.

    We've always ran a screen.

I bet alot of it happens at the end of a run when you close the blades...there's gotta be a lot of suction above the blower!

Make sure you have the aerated nozzles in the hat...might help? hope!

...on second thought, there's alot less air flowing through the screen when the blades are shut. it's been a long day.

Well everybody can do as they please but I think that a 1/4 inch screen would stop most stuf that would do serious damage to your rotors. What it might do after that is another problem. We all cross our fingers and hope for the best. Its just not a hobby that is easy on motors or anything else.

    Screen

If I was to get one, is Spud the only one that has them or did you guys make them?

Also, what size is the screen holes (approx.) on the one Spud sells?

    Thanks again.

We've used screens in our dragster and Altered for years without any problems. We found a 3/8" rock on it this year. I think it was from throwing rocks forward on the burnout and then driving into them?
