Rod passes from a bbc big chief

Whats the limit that any of you that run a bbc big chief style motor get out of your rods running the 1/8 on a mild tune up?

 

Sixty four was one too many. Broke #1 rod, oiled down tires and stuck me in the wall @ 135 mph. $ 50,000.00 later it is finally fixed . This was with a 8-71 non stripped blower running 4.70 index

 

I put 44 runs on a set of MGP rods this year some 1/4 rest 1/8 mile. I run a 4 in. stroke and see only appox. 8800 rpms on top.

 

40 runs on Brooks B2 8800 rpm shift. They were cracked around the bolts but still holding torque.

 

Our rule of thumb is 25 passes running 1/4 mi. Shifting 8200 and going through ther traps 8600 or so. It's not worth trying to stretch things too far. Too expensive when you guess wrong!

 

I don't run as hard or even as often as most on this board.
I change them when I get "the feeling". Ya know the "feeling"?

 

I had that "the feeling" once and ignored it even though I had a new set of rods in the shop (it's called momentary lazy). Thought I could get one more race out of it. 9200 rpm's in the lights it changed my mind but it was to late. I think I saved the headers. I don't get greedy or ignore "the feeling" anymore.
