I am building a 511" standard deck hemi 4.5" stroke using early aj fuel heads & standard 14-71.looking for moderate output in a powerglide equipped altered.I have new blower pistons but rod length i would need is stock. Is this a good combo or start over and use a longer rod(+.250) ?

If by stock length you mean 6.86", that's going to give you a 1.52-1.53 rod/stroke ratio, not the best if you plan on turning 9500+, but it sounds like you're putting a fast bracket/top dragster type deal together. With that ratio you'll have some side loading on the cylinders and will be harder on piston skirts but I doubt you're planning to get 1000 laps out of it with a tear-down, and your torque band will be down lower and should work with the gear spread of the glide pretty well. What rpms'/ rear gears are you planning on running?

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for what it sounds like you're doing, and I sure wouldn't scrap the parts you've already got, just because it may not be the ticket for a TAD setup.
