I have been running Clevite 77 H bearings in my steel rod, blown big block chevy since I built it (low 4.20's in the eighth, altered) . I ordered some new bearings and they sent me ones with out the radius. When I called about it they said Clevite no longer makes the H bearings and changed to HN which have no radius, just a narrower bearing. I would think that it would be a good thing to have the wider bearing with the radius, if nothing else to spread the load out. What brand and load rating would be comparable to replace my old bearings. I never had any issue with the Clevite 77 and really liked them.
    Thanks
    Adam

You will not have any problem with the narrow bearing. The surface area is probably about the same as the chamfered bearing. You could also use the HK bearing which is an H bearing that is coated and chamfered. You will lose a few tenths of clearance with the coated bearing, but if you can afford to lose a little clearance the coated bearings hold up very well. They are also available in .001s and X clearance so you can probably get your clearance back to where you want it.
