I wanted to see what everybody likes running for rod and main bearings. I have used the Clevite 527HD on my rods and Clevite full and half groove bearings on my mains in a 900 hp mopar wedge blown alky application. My new combination is a Hemi setup with a BAE Billet block, B-2 Rods, 11.5-1 pistons, Veney Fuel heads, with the same 6-71 mini retro blower. I should be making close to 1500 hp with the new parts and I don't know if I need to go to the V-series bearing or what. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Clevite

I would recommend the Clevite V bearing, especially since you won't be doing bottom end on a regular basis (most likely). I've seen the M bearing start showing a tendency to want to delaminate over the past few years, hence the reason why most racers run the V bearing now. The M is easier to read, but has more of a delamination risk.

The only bearing you don't want to run the hard bearing in is the thrust bearing. I would run an M series Clevite in that bearing or a soft King bearing works good as well. If you have a clutch, be sure to install the drivetrain, put the trans in high gear with the air on, then check your endplay on the crankshaft. As long as it still has some endplay, and it's not in a bind, it's fine.

I'm sure some here will recommend the M (soft) bearing to you, but that's my .02.

WHATEVER you do, don't ever, ever run a clevite with the batch date 8/00. I think most of those are out of circulation, but you never know. That batch killed a lot of crankshafts/motors.

Thanks for the recommendation and the great website Will. Just to clarify - you recommend using the V series bearing for both the Rods and the Mains with the exception of the thrust bearing?
