I have a couple questions about restripping rotors. We use a moony ham 6-71 and it is a little worn out. So we are looking into freshening up the strips.
    1) Can this be done in house or do I need to send these out?
    2) If it can be done in house do I need a degree to complete this or is it simple?
    3) What will I need to get this done?
    4) Where can I buy the materials?

Thanks for all the help in advanced
    Bob

it can be done but if you dont have the tools it would crazy to try

tools - gear puller the pulls both gears off at the same time
rotor fixture - holds the rotors while your stripping the whites
lathe for doing the blacks someone does make a bench top fixture doing this
they have to be in time with each other
there is a left and right rotors dont mix them up i done mine several time and i did get them mixed up one time

by the time you buy every thing to do it with your probley better to off and have some one do it for you

If you currently do some fabrication in your shop, you can probably build your rotor holding fixture along with the gear pullers. Buy some gearpuller parts, like the big center "bolt" with the point on the end. Get 3 of these, 2 for the gearpuller and 1 for the rotor fixture.

The black strips are certainly important, but I've not seen the need to replace them as often as the whites. I cannot justify the machine to cut the blacks so I send them to the mfg to do that.
