Looking to find out the proper respirator cartridge to use for protection from nitro fumes. I have done a little research but I am not a chemist or safety expert. I am hoping someone here knows the definitive answer. Thanks.

i have a blue point ya2180 mask and use the np2172 cartridges that are purple in color. only thing i found that makes it almost pleasant. tried a few other types and they all bleed fumes pretty bad. im sure their is a certain amount of bad chemicals making it past the filters, but in that environment all mask manufacturers recommend a separate air system with fed oxygen. filter masks are designed to work in a oxygen rich environment to filter particles, not really to filter fumes, but these type of temporary masks work in a pinch. another thing i forgot is with chemicals, usally what they are made for,and what they are used for often is different. as is with nitromethane, its used primarily as a cleaning agent, and the repspretory requirements are different from using nitro on a rag to clean something, then to stick it in a engine, and start it. now the engine makes the substance make another 1000 differenct chemicals once burned. now its used for something it was probably never intended to be used for. again, a chemical made for 1 purpose, and used for 50 others, makes it difficult for the manufacturers to reccomend a handling chart of safety products to be used for it. but we just use a mask that doesnt let us gag on our own vomit, we are happy enough.
