    Red Wolf Racing Reaches Final

A solid weekend that exceeded expectations overall, as Alberta’s Red Wolf team went to the Top Alcohol Funny Car final round at the Mission Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Mission, BC this past weekend.

After qualifying #2 on Saturday, the team went into eliminations cautiously optimistic they could reach the final round. In round one, owner/driver John Evanchuck faced off against another Alberta driver, Trevor Lebsack. John was real late on the starting line, but Lebsack has been struggling all weekend, and the Red Wolf Flopper, caught his opponent by 250 feet. John rolled to victory with a 5.75 second elapsed time.

In round two he would face Clint Thompson, who was looking for a four-peat at this event. John made up for his late light in round one, with a great 0.058 second reaction time compared to Clint’s late 0.144 light. John needed all his advantage, as Clint ran his quickest ET of the weekend, a 5.639 ET. John Also ran his quickest elapsed time of the weekend, a 5.699 ET at 252 mph to take the stripe by 0.03 seconds.

The final round would be a challenge as he was up against Brian Hough who had his car on a string all weekend long. He never went slower than 5.66 seconds all weekend long.

The final would be over on the starting line, as John could not hold his car back, and he red lit away any chance. Hough ran 5.64 seconds at 256 mph to take the win.

“We are really happy with our opening weekend of the year,” stated Evanchuck.” The goal was to run in the 5.60’s and we did that in round two of eliminations, we went to the final, which s always the goal, but against the likes of Thompson, Webster and Hough that is a tough task.”

Crew Chief Bill Moore, had not only Evanchuck’s car in the final but Shawn Cowie’s TAD as well.

“He (Moore)did a great job going from car to car, and getting both to the final is a credit to his ability, for that we thank him,” stated Evanchuck after the race.

John and his wife Ruth would again like to thank their all their sponsors, Big Eagle Services, Aqua Industrial, RedL (the hose people), Lucas Oil, Husky Oil, Campbell Automotive, Baystar Electrical services, DuraGuard Fence, Eskimo Excavators, Cougar Paint and Collison, Fleet Brake, Mirror Images, Jet Equipment Canada and CMax.
