I am an Engine builder that has been thrown into the crew chief arena and could use some info please. What we have is 2150 lb. T/D just ran a 6.79 @198mph. mph seems way slow in the mph for that ET. rear wing is at a very steep angle 7 deg ?
I am pretty sure Thats why the car won't mph. Whats a good starting point.
I am thinking 0 deg. I am getting ready to stand on the motor and dont want fight other problems. Like dragging a billboard down the track.
    Thanks Jay

we run an altered with a 48"x13" rear wing. it all depends on the profile of the wing, but we run 0-3 on ours.

If the driver says "It was really skating around down there", it is about right. :p

Take the angle out until it gets a tad loose the last 2-3 hundred feet. No doubt the wing will scrub off mph but in some cases thats better than loosing et from the tires getting loose. Remember that when you wset the wing with the car sitting on the ground that is not what the wing angle is on the run. The wing angle on the track is dependant on how much the rear tires grow during the run. If you set the wing at 3 degrees with the car in a normal sitting position it will be more while running.

We set ours at 0 and we run about 230 mph in the 1/4 with a Spitzer. As the rear tires grow the wing will actually gain a degree or so of attack.

How is the correct way to measure the wing angle and what to use to measure it?

Use a digital level and place it on the upper flat portion of the wing. If you don't have a flat area on the wing lay a level across the top with the digital level on top of the level. Remember that the tires need to have the same press each time you check the level and that this is just a point of reference and will take some trial and error to get wat your combination needs for the wing angle.

    wing angle

make sure the car is on level ground! on my car the top of the cage is close to parrallel with the ground when tires are set so I check my wing against the top of the cage that way the car does not have to be on level ground.
