How are guys reading the timing mark with the short ground strap? I know from Mike write up a 5671 type plug you can see timing mark start to turn the radius on the ground strap.

    Any info will be appreciated.

As I said in my plug article it is very confusing to read timing by the "blue line" because the is the annealing point of the metal in the ground strap and that is totally dependent on combustion temperatures. So you can move the blue line by changing the AFR which changes combustion temperatures or you can change the timing which also changes the combustion temperature. This means that you can be way off in one and correct it with the other and be totally lost. It is far safer and easier to fix the timing based on your engine build combination and then adjust the AFR.

and to answer your question. Yes, you could see a blue line on a 6061 but because the ground strap is so short it would worry me that the combustion chamber temps would be really too high.

In my Chevy, the look of the ground strap is very dependent on where it's at in the chamber. I don't index, so completely ignore the strap. This was hard to get used to after reading indexed nitrous straps religiously for years.

You are so correct. Reading nitrous plugs and alcohol plugs is night and day different.
