Reactor Flyweels

    This will be the fourth year having one behind my motor, havent broke one yet. I do read horror stories on here about them though, hope it dont happen to me. 8200rpm in traps, glide.

    Reactor Flexplate

    We mark our crankshaft bolts with a white paint line to be able to monitor if they loosen any. The aluminum flexplate will wollow out real quick when they work loose ( I check with a flashlite after every run), and I know from expereince. If you keep them tight, they will run 3.80s/1/8 mile with a powerglide/converter and not cause any problems. Jim

    I loctite the flexplate and converter bolts. I know two people who blame lost motors on bolts working loose, true or not who knows but I dont want to find out.

    Anyone else loctite their stuff?

    Red loctite on flexplate bolts.....nylon locknuts on converter.

    poor design and service to match. Call them and ask about service.
    We broke a ring gear tooth within 10 starts.
    I have two for chevy for sale.

    Locktite Bolts

    We do locktite our crank bolts and use the metal locknuts on the converter bolts with locktite, but still have had them loosen, so we check them each run-we paint the white stripe on them and can tell if they have moved-THANKS! Jim from TN

    Meziere Flexplate

    My choice is Meziere billet flexplate - it's manufactured more like a steel flywheel, but really rugged...we have not had an issue in 2 seasons....we broke the center (actually did not break it, but was cracked 3/4 way around in the hub area) out of 2 Reactors before switching to the Meziere...good thing we had it apart and took a look.....and always use red locktite on both flexplate and converter bolts - there are several threads on aluminum Flexplate issues on ITA lately...

    We cracked one on our veney-kb hemi in 29 runs. It cracked around the bolt holes. Good thing we found it before it broke in half and got ugly. We will never use one of theirs again.

    Aluminum Flex Plate

    Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't an aluminum flex plate be very similar to

    aluminum and steel connecting rods.

    If the steel and aluminum flex plates were roughly the same physical dimensions,

    thickness and diameter. Being for the same engine they would have to be.

    Severe vibration and movement, compression and tensile pull, stress and heat.

    It is a physical given that aluminum has a fatigue life that is LESS than steel.

    If there is a better theory/explanation, I would be curious to hear it.

    Ran one on my blown bbc, first off they are 1/8 inch thicker and we had to build new spacers for the converter(of course we wiped the pump out of the trany first). As someone else mention, my bolts backed off (I now use red locktite) and the aluminum was eaten up and un-useable in just a few passes. I went back to the wheel by J.W., they are strong but heavy.
    Also flywheels do not come balanced, we now balance them before use.

    Fly Wheel

    I use the one piece JW "Billet" wheel.
    I little pricey at first BUT they recert for $50.

    Can't say about the Reactor.
