i called what used to be Trick Titanium today about getting my can re-certed. i talked to this guy, who was really courteous and helpful. i told him i wanted to drop it off one afternoon, go up to Pontiac and pick it up on my way home......no problem he says, will take less than an hour to do. by the way, i said....how much does that cost these days? $$ 249 dollars sir!! i was in shock.....yea, the price went up when the company was sold last year. and the only bad thing is ....no one is regulating any of this. they can charge what ever they want, because they are the only ones who can re-cert their product. that's 250 bucks a year from what.....1000 people, after they bought the can....what a joke. it's kinda like the same deal with a screw blower....must be a whole lot of work to re-certify some of this stuff:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ya I here ya on this one, wasn't it $100? I sent mine in with clutch dust in it intentionally to see how close they actually looked at it. The only place cleaned was where the new tag went! I can understand if you have had an explosion, get it checked, but when it looks like new????

How about lenco blankets.......does the material rot? If it does then they need to be built from something else anyway.

I don't want to be accused of anti safety, because I'm not. I think some of this should be common sense though, if any components are found to be in bad condition (frayed, burned, holes through diaper), they are subject to rejection by the tech inspector (they look at these anyway at every divisional and national event).

    Suggestions for cert changes:

revert back to 5 year certs for trans blankets
    3 years for blower restraints
    2 years for engine diapers

...and how about going to two years for a titanium clutch can.

You spend the big bucks on a ti can because it's supposed to be the best, yet a steel can is still good on cert for 2 years and a ti one is only good for one year? Makes sense to me...

    Browell is the future.....maybe....lol

    Hi guys,

It's for the price raise reason that I'm going to stick with my Browell steel can. $75 every 2 years for cert and the guys there seem really nice. Plus they are going to give me a box for it not sell me a $50 box. I could deliver my can in person to trick since they are here in MI and they would probably still charge me for a box.

I'm just going to have to lose 14 lbs to make up for the can, which when you think about what Red Lobster and the Outback cost....I'll even be saving more money...lol.....seriously though I can't live with out my favorite restaraunts....no way

    Trev

P.S. Tim, I have been trying to call you, I have money for you......I was already thinking of ways the fire suit could pay itself off....the life of a professional stuntman seems like fun....hmm.

There is that company that makes the aluminum bellhousing with a steel layer and it has a 2 year cert. I also agree that I wouldn't want to be painted as anti-safety but I think the safety stuff has gone nutzo. And with all the stuff going on at Impact apparently a sticker doesn't really mean anything. I still want the final say so to be from the tech guys at the track. I don't want somebody to pass me at tech just because I have a sticker, I want them to pass me because my stuff is in good shape and functional as it should be. I have a lot more confidence in them than I do some of the manufacturers. Dave Germain

My goal is to be able to be finished the first week of April
so far i am ahead of schedule.. hope it stays that way

but i agree with the SFI tags
they need to have things checked
    maybe not each year
but come on 250 bucks just to look at it
maybe i should scrape that tag,
cause that must be real silver on it
great now i am pissed off again

    Re-Certs

What I have read here about re-certs of safty equipment make one just say
    Hmmmm.
Ok, say I go and buy an SFI-20 fire suit but never get my car finished until after the cert on the NEW! Suit ran out, so I send it back for a new re-cert and it comes back at a cost as a SFI-15, yet it was never used ????
Same question goes for cans, seat belts etc.
They just want you to bend over and buy there new equipment to keep them in buisness.

psi had the biggest scam going. back when i was running a screw and would call ,I was told, x- amount plus $65 for the sticker. HELLO, what good is getting it certed without the sticker. or like I could say,"cert it but hold the sticker for now"... I put one of those aluminum browell cans in my pro mod. hell yeh its fine. and browell are good and easy people to work with. I bought the can used and needed some changes made to it. I also wanted it re- anodized. ... for changes , anodize, cert and ship. it was only $260.00 . . you make the decision. only problem is i am not sure if they make a 6.2 cert can for f/c's.

    Aluminum can

The Aluminum can fore mentioned is also made by Browell but at present they only have them in 6.1 and 6.3....I just asked them about that and they said they just simply haven't gotten around to doing a 6.2 version yet but it is expected to debut in the future.

DO your research before buying a Browell Alum Can, and make sure what you are getting. We bought on and the adjuster window was not in the right spot, the liner rubbed the starter ring, it came with no exhaust hole or tube cut and the pressed in inserts for the bellhousing kept falling out everytime we put it on. Well we ordered a can for a 3 disc blown Hemi and it came in the pattern of some other pattern that I was told was "the other hemi". I heard that the insert problem was fixed but the other issues were blamed on us for not specifying what we wanted. Although he did redrill it and put the exhaust tube in for free I still had to cut my own liner and open up my adjuster window more.
