Thanks for the great info guys, now for those who use radios , between Driver and Crewchief, what did you do as far as the helmet speakers or ear buds......what works better ????

With Nitro speakers, need to send in helmet to get them installed or
Should we just use ear buds...

    whats better ??

    Thanks

There are 2 types of helmet speakers. The "Nitro" or "100% Nitro" speaker I or the competition sells does invade the helmet structure. Some helmet brands more than others. But done correctly does not effect the Snell rating or the integrity of the helmets safety. The "DONE CORRECTLY" Being the key words. And that is the reason it should be done by someone familiar with them. But a smart crafty person could do it themselves. I also carry a Non invasive helmet speaker that almost requires no tools and can be installed by the Helmet owner. Some helmets types are a literal 10 minute job and some require a little bit more work.

The difference between the 2 is that One "The 100% Nitro or Nitro" has a Jell or Foam (I use Jell) ear seal around the unit and an acoustic pad back. That blocks out or seals the outside noises from the ear. The less invasive speaker does not have the seal. Both speaker types are very loud. The DB level of the non seal type is actually louder. A good fitting helmet with the less evasive speaker is almost like an ear seal. To be honest a Drag application really does not need the Seal type speaker. Your radios are used primarily before the car is staged and after the car has gone 1320 feet. The car noise level is not a problem at those times. I have that speaker in a good deal of Nitro car drivers helmets with no complaints.

As for ear buds? I haven’t met a person yet the LOVES to stick anything in there ear. But there are people who prefer ear protection. The earbud does the job as ear protection and a speaker all in one. Drawback is the earbuds are highly abused. They end up in places they shouldn't be. Driver wearing ear buds...... What’s the first thing most do when the helmet comes off? They grab the wire and yank...... Not good for that speaker connection. A good percentage of earbud users (probably 80% or better) WILL end up needing to replace there ear buds at LEAST once in a 3 year period. The helmet speaker will still be going strong.

My radios came from Chi Town Brown. I wear ear buds and love them. I run my radio about 1/2 throttle, more than that, makes my ears bleed. (Blown alcohol FED)
