rack&penion steering on funny car

I am in the process of building a funny car to run in alcohol class. I am asking for advice on the steering. on my alcohol dragster we run r&p steering, but every funny car has a outdated ( to me) pitman arm stye steering box. is the a reason for this? installing r&p is a simple tack and want to here why its not done, thanks

R&P is way way way to fast. Some have done it. Most say its an experiment gone wrong.
