Make sure that the serial adapter is Windows 7 compatible. Other wise it will not work.

I know from fighting it myself.

Just to check...you did load the adapter software on your laptop? Does your laptop recognize the serial adapter when you plug it in?

Go into Control Panel, then System and look at the Device Manager - if your adapter doesn't show on a COM port (under Ports(COM and LPT)), then the driver hasn't installed correctly...

PS Mike -- could you check your PMs?

What brand is the adapter RacePak supplied?

I didn't get mine from RacePak, but I did get the one Tim Anderson/Donny Cummings recommended.

If it's the same as mine, I could see if I can find the disk and email the driver to you. However, I recently got a new race laptop, also Windows 7, and Windows automagically found a driver for it. Was your PC connected to the net when you plugged it into the USB port?

I'm in Sweden at the moment and the race laptop is at home in the UK. I'll see what I can find when I get home this evening but as we're going demonstration runs at Santa Pod this weekend, it might be Monday before I can get back to you.

Can your laptop see any USB devices?

In Device Manager, do you see the Universal Serial Bus Controllers at the bottom of the list?
And if you expand that line, does it show active controllers?

Could be that USB is disabled in your BIOS settings, in which case you will have to go into the BIOS settings when you boot up the PC, and check to see if USB has been disabled....

Thank God that Microsoft don't make race motors....

If other USB devices work correctly it sounds like the USB-Serial connector itself is faulty... Perhaps an email to Racepak (donny@racepak.com or tim@racepak.com), or maybe better stĂll contact Egbert (or Dick Koster) at Post en Dros - they are Racepak agents in Europe.

And looky here, a video from Racepak about Racepak USB to Serial Adapter settings linked to from Egbert's web site http://youtu.be/rrWvkzlw5TY

    Good luck

Have you tried connecting it all up then open Datalink and go to Settings and Scan Comm Ports and see if that helps.

    I found the problem.
The race pak adapter was not good.
I bought a new adapter in a store, and it works.

Good. Talk to you at Santa Pod.

We have to connect up in a specific order to get a reliable connection.... Power up Racepak, wait until it initialises (10 seconds), plug serial connector to Racepak, then plug in USB to laptop.

Any other order, it's a lottery whether download will work.
