I have an Oddys 540 KB/Olds 14* Big chief Motor. I am tearing down for the winter freshen & noticed that the intake pushrods are 7/16 diameter & the exhausts are 1/2. Seems to me that it should be the other way around. Anybody know why it would be set up this way?

The exhaust valves are harder to open because they still have pressure in them when the valves open, I dont think its a huge deal on the alky motors, the nitro boys have it bad.

It is set up this way because the exhaust valve opens under extreme cylinder pressure. Therefore 1/2 in. diameter pushrods are needed. 7/16th pushrods are fine on the intake. There is no cylinder pressure to open agaisnt and port walls will only allow this daim. push rod.
