Me and a Friend are both looking to buy new V300SD Racepacks for our blown alcohol door cars.
There is the standard V300SD and the V300SD lite.

From what I have read, the only difference is the software.
The standard allows the user to create their own math channels--what is this for? A flow meter?
    - Standard version required to run the ignition timing upgrade feature--?? I don't know what this means to me.

    Is there more to it?

Do we really need these functions?

The Math Channels are an advanced function that allows the user to build formulas to compute out answers from recorded data. I use them but a lot of racers don't and my guess is you will not be using them. You can still run a flow meter without a Math Channel. The Ignition Timing feature allows you to record the actual ignition timing the motor is seeing from a pickup on the crankshaft. You can still do that on a standard unit. One thing I would recommend is buying a second SD card. The reason being is if you take the card out to replay the data you have the possibility of forgetting to put it back in and making a run without it. I use two cards and swap them out so there is never a chance of not having one in the unit. If you are using the MSD Grid then you can get a VNET adapter to allow the recording of the Grid data on the Racepak including the programmed ignition timing.
