Say a BBC, 8 or 10-71, how much timing could you safely pull at the hit? I'm talking about maybe a slick track, or to slow the car some for bracket racing etc. You'd want to ramp it back in while you were on the tire otherwise you'd risk tire spin. would 6 or 8 degrees hurt anything? We are talking alky here also. Just thinking about ways you could slow a blown motor down to bracket race more consistantly.

Too broad a topic to answer effectively; what are ratios, weight, rear gear? We ran a SBC w/ a 10-71HH (3.90's 1/8th mi) and never pulled any. We also ran a BAE Fathead w/ a 8-71 hh (3.8 1/8th mi and 5.9 1/4 mi) and maybe pulled on the worst of tracks 4 degrees. Having the correct gearing in the trans, rear gear, fuel system, and converter setup are the most important. If you're too lean, too aggressive w/ ratio, or too tight in the converter it not only is going to prove problematic on the starting line (thus taking timing out) but it'll prove even more problematic from 1.0-1.5s on. Share some more info if you have it.
