Pretty much all screw blower combinations I have seen use a pedal clutch or converter leaving at 4000 RPM plus. Has anyone tried using a screw blower with a glide type clutch with a 3 speed lenco leaving at 2200 RPM idle? This is for a blown alcohol funny car / altered, hemi combination, match race / low 6 second index type racing. The glide type clutch works fine behind a roots type blower just wondering whether a screw blower combo would have problems leaving from an idle.

    Thank you for your thoughts

Theres no reason you coudnt use a glide clutch with a screw. You wont need as much low gear though. Say if you have a 1.90 low its probably way to much for a screw blower, a PSI D anyway.

I have been helping tune a funny car for the last couple years with a high helix retro Littlefield 14-71 on a Brad fuel headed 518 with a glide clutch with a mild tune up. It runs 6.40/s - 6.50/s, .970 to 1.000 60 ft leaving at 2200 RPM with 36" tires, 2.07 low, and 4.30 gears. On the tracks we run, the glide clutch has made this car very consistent with very few aborted runs due to shake or spin and the clutch maintenance is very low.

I am finishing up a new car with similar combination except 34.5 tire, 4.10 gears, 1.98 low. Have really liked the Littlefield but have pondered whether a PSI 206 D would work as well or better than the roots. Never having run a screw blower, I wasn't sure if it made as much boost down low as a roots that would allow it to be efficient with a glide clutch. Marty, from your comment about taking some low gear out, it sounds like it would be more efficient. Did I understand this correct?

    Thanks

I havent had much experience with a glide clutch but i have staged to fast and had the tree come on and left at an idle with a pedal clutch the motor stays free till the centrifugal weight comes in at 4500 or so and didnt really hurt my et,this was in my roots blown door car.
We put a NHRA legal dragster together this year. The PSI d blower is MAD at the starting line. With the motor really fat( returning 6% of a 18 gallon pump ) 471 ci, 115 od d blower 1.68 low 4.56 gear and 36" tire crower pedal clutch .927 60' 2.500 330' on the first hit.
