I have a 2700lb screw Pro Slammer with a small block and powerglide. Upgrading to a Quick drive and 3 speed B & J and asking about first gear ratios.
I ran 1.02 60' and 4.16 660' with the 1.8 first, 4.87 rear and 34.5 Hoosiers - having to take 5 degrees out for .5 to get wheel speed right in first. I have a choice of 1.8 first or 2.0 - what is recommended?

I run a clutch but I think it would matter what kind of rpm you want to finish at. What rpm's are you crossing the line at now? And what rpm are you wanting to cross the line at?

Running through at 10,100rpm. Target is higher around 10,600+

If you are having to take power out in first gear, you might keep the 1.80 but go with a 5.00 rear gear. You will still have to take power out in first gear but you should have a little more power in all the gears and rpm at the stripe.

1.8 or even numerically lower and I agree on a 5.0 rear. 5 degrees out on the hit is aggressive. 10 degrees gives you a bigger window.
