Thacker Looking to Rebound in Atlanta​

The first couple of races this season haven’t gone exactly as planned for the Rapid Transit Racing Top Alcohol Dragster sponsored by TORCO Race Fuels, but they are hoping to put all that behind them this weekend in Commerce, Georgia at the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals. Driver, Marty Thacker, and the team have been working day and night trying solve all the problems they have been experiencing lately on the track. This weekend they plan to make up for the slow start and use their newfound knowledge to put together a winning performance at Atlanta Dragway.

The defending Division 3 champions have experienced success at this track before. Last year, they qualified number 1 and in 2003 were the event champions in the Top Alcohol Dragster class. The team is hoping to add to that list and take their first step towards another Top 5 finish in the POWERade National points standings with a good showing this weekend.

"We have struggled horribly so far this year. There is no one to blame but myself. The crew has done a great job fixing all my damage, but I figure they are going to get tired of that soon,” Thacker admitted. “Since Indy, they've locked me in the shop and only let me out to go to work so I can buy groceries for the trailer. I've replaced everything that I can think of on the car. In Commerce, we are going to unload and run a very conservative tune-up and see where it takes us. I'm going to get this figured out, before they replace me."

The TORCO Racing Fuels / Atlantic Industrial sponsored dragster will begin qualifying on Friday afternoon at 2 PM. They will have another shot at 5:30 PM and the final qualifying run at 1:30 PM on Saturday.
