Watch the driveshaft trace on the data recorder. If it humps up too high at the shift because the tires spin too much then try a little retard. This varies depending on the condition of the track.

    Thanks guys.

We just got brand new asphalt to the 330 at our little track. The old surface just wouldn't handle a shift without showing some pretty good spin, and sometimes a little shake. Tomorrow will be our first day on the new surface and after walking on it tonight I think it's gonna take a lot more tuneup than the old one. I'm gonna flat line the timing through the shift and see how it does.

    shift

on our old roots car the timing retard at the shift could make or break the run on a slick track. The rpm drop from the glide is pretty big and I think it can put the engine at a pi$$ed off spot. We started revving it a lot higher and it made it happier at the shift too.

    rpm

we were shifting a chevy at 8000 and took it to 8800 and it liked it better. I thought maybe it gave away a little torque and kept the tire happy. Maybe it just straight spun but at least it didn't shake.

Well, out new asphalt worked like a champ. We had some cars that normally race at Rocky Mountain Raceway in Salt Lake City show up. They said our surface was better than RMR. I straight lined the timing in first gear two degrees higher than I ever ran before and my driveline rpm was clean as could be all the way to the finish line. For the second pass I added another two degrees and got the same thing. In fact it dead hooked and never quivered for the rest of the run. I couldn't get a third run, but will try again this Saturday with more timing. I have my base set at 38 degrees (fuel heads) and have had to pull it clear down to 24 to get through first gear on our old surface. I am currently at 30 and we are finally starting to perform. Next test will be 34.

    Thanks for the help.
