Talked to PM racer Bill Doucet just now and he informed me of a possible bad batch of NGK Spark Plugs, the R6061-10's that most screw cars run.

At a recent Super Chevy show race in Montgomery on two seperate runs, different cylinders he had new plugs that had a crack in the ribbed section of the plug, going up and down the plug vertically, just above the writing. He thought it was just a weird deal until the racer pitted right next to him came over and asked him out of the blue if he had ever seen a plug 'do this' and the plugs were doing the exact same thing. He had 5 plugs do that.

After some investigation, all of the cracked plugs (7) had a batch number of H771 on the hex part of the plug. They each had several plugs from other batches that had no such problems. All 7 were from the H771 batch.

Just FYI. These plugs will make for a dead hole.

    what a deal

Maybe that's why they decided to double the price of them? Pretty bad when a $5 spark plug won't stay together for a quarter mile!

    Bad wires?

Wasn't there, but he should check his wires and boots. Many times, when the wire or plug terminal get excess resistance in them, whether from fatigue or damage, it will fire down the side of the plug and cause heat cracking. It looks like you described, Will. Small verticle cracks on the porcelin tower section of the plug will appear.
Just something else to think about.

I Saw The Plugs, Doesnt Appear To Be A Single Vertical Crack, But Maybe A Series Of Them Along The Ribbed Section. Looks Like It Was Arcing Right Thru In About 5 Areas....very Interesting

The wires on my engine have have about 20 runs on them. Not sure how many they are good for. Ken Walsh changed the cap, rotor, and the wires. I'll give him a call and see if that fixed it. The thing that bothers me is that out of about 5 different batch numbers, only ones that had the cracks were H771's.
