I know Will has been pushing for a different number of events to be counted for a national title but what about the number of points we get per round?

How does everyone like only getting 11 per round until the final?

What about when there are only 3-4 cars at a divisional. Winner + Ru still get the full 85 and 64 respectively.

Shouldn't alcohol have a different scale than the other sportsman categories? Maybe it should be more like the pros in which each round is 20 points whether its the 1st or the final.

    Should Qualifying position factor in?

I'm probably stepping on my own foot here but this would make qualifying at the top much more saught after since there is no bonus check anymore. (In most cases.) We don't choose to run the car very hard in qualifying because there is nothing to gain. If there was, we would.

Would it be difficult for NHRA to switch the system? (ie: the computer program on NHRA.com) If they adopted the Pro scale and still went 5/5 this may be an easy change since it would just be a hybrid of both existing programs.

On the flip side the current system rewards the winners. Nascar changed their points system this year to award the winners more points wise because championship chasers would ride in the top 10 and be happy with that. Our sport isn't anything like NASCAR so that might not apply. I feel that every round is a hard earned win. Why should one round be worth less than the next?

    What do you guys think?

As I reread that I realized that the 4 rounds at a national would make a win there worth 20 more than a divisional. That seems like the right thing since it is harder to win nationals than divisionals.

Really, no opinions one way or the other? We get 24 posts on why A-fuel shouldn't just leave the line with the parachute out to load the motor, but no one has a thought on this subject.

    points

    flash...good points on the points...

i definitely think qualifying points need to be rewarded at both national and divisional events. it will give you some reward for qualifying high, since it damn sure doesn't pay any better.

as far as the national vs divisional points...i am with you, i think you need to get extra points for the extra round. either that or make divisionals 75 pts for the win and 54 for the r/u...rather than the same 85/64 you get at a national. now that the out of divisionals and in divisionals all gain the same points, why the hell do we still have the extra bonus points. one could make a case to drop the bonus points and add qualifying points.

in regards to short car counts....i don't think racers in a particular division need to be penalized for other cars not showing up. if i run division 2 funny car, i can't help it there aren't that many cars in that part of the country and that other cars don't show up. i think such a rule would be the nail in the coffin for division 2 funny car because nobody chasing national points would risk running division 2 because of the risk of not having a full field and full points.
