Please Pray...

Anyone who's seen us race knows "Big Mike." He's been racing with me since 1971 when we used to bracket race together. He works magic with cylinder heads like very few can. He was with Jerry Darien when Scekzi drove for him and again when Brandon Bernstein drove. Mike is a tremendous person.

This morning at 9:45 AM he and his son, Toby, were getting ready to go finish cleaning Mike's mom's house (she died several months ago and the house has been sold). Mike just finished saying good by to his wife Diane (Toby's mom) as they started to leave. As they headed out the door they heard a loud POP from the bedroom. At the same time, the dogs ran out of the house. Mike and Toby ran to the bedroom and found Diane on the floor with a self inflicted gunshot wound through the mouth that blew the back of her head off. Mike did CPR while Toby called 911. Toby held a towel to his mom's head until the parametics arrived. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Anyone that knows Big Mike knows he had gone through some difficult times with her due to depression, but she never once mentioned suicide. Now Mike and Toby (22) are experiencing tremendous loss and pain as they attempt to deal with this plus support the entire family after this mornings tragedy.

I would like to ask Mike's extended family of racers to support him and Toby as well as the rest of his family by remembering them in your prayers.

No one is ever prepared for this situation. Our God is always there and I pray that Mike and Toby rely on Him for strength. It is my prayer that the Comforter will support them through this time.

That is sad news to hear involving a great guy who is such a fixture in the west coast racing community. We wish Mike and his son all the best as they get through this difficult time. We hope to see Mike back with his friends at the racetrack soon.

I printed this out and will be taking it with me to give to Mike. He is humbled by the show of support he and his family have been getting from his extended family here, through messages and through phone calls.
