    Rest In Peace Don Woosley

    Don Woosley, NHRA's Top Alcohol Dragster world champion in 1982, and a seven-time North Central Division Champion died in his sleep Dec. 14. He was 63.

    Woosley, who scored 10 NHRA national event wins and seven runner-ups in his career and was one of the class' most feared and yet most-liked competitors in the early 1980s, driving the yellow and white Ale 8 One-sponsored Woosley, Sharp, and Reynolds dragster.

    Woosley scored his first career win at the 1975 NHRA SPORTSnationals event in Bowling Green, Ky., driving the Sharp & Reynolds Magic Show injected A/Fuel Dragster past Dale Armstrong on a holeshot in the final, and also won the Sportsman Allstars competition in Bowling Green at the 1986 event in Bowling Green, which was one of the favorite stomping grounds for the Winchester, Ky.-based racer. His last final-round appearance was at the 1987 Atlanta event.

    He is survived by sons Lowrey, Jason, and Chris; grandsons Michael and Marley; and brothers Jim, Jack Jr., and Paul. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 5-8 p.m. at the Rolan Taylor Funeral Home in Winchester, Ky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 17.
