Has anyone ever tried using the Pioneer mag drive with the Donovan cover and a blower. I bought one and it looks like more trouble than it's worth. The belt hits it, the valve cover needs notched etc. If no easy fix what do you recommend for a Blown BBC. I am looking for trouble free operation and easy to adapt. I run a Supermag 3
    Thanks in advance,
    Adam

Call my dad, George Sitko, at 562-243-0482. He makes a very reliable, robust, and accurate mag drive.

    drive

yup ran them on 3 Donovan drives before going to KB, still run it with one Donovan.
there is a spacer that should have come with the drive to space idler out and move the belt out.
I occasionally used a spacer behind the crank pulleys if needed.
You might try the narrower blower belt if you are running the wide blower belts.
The problems develops because there are so many variances with drive hubs set back, and valve cover design.
If you have a drive hub with just a little set back and not the wrong valve covers it will fit right on.
Just one un-forseen problem I had is, there are gear drives (Fowlers raised cam) is the one I ran into, the cam gear is a different thickness, which in turn makes the mag drive gear not be centered in the tube for the mag. there are 2 different gears one for the Fowler drive one for all others.
There is a place to put a fitting for a oil line. I have always used them, but every one I know of, including professional engine builders do not use it and just let it "splash" oil it. So this year I am going to pull the lines off.
They are VERY trouble free, extremly effective (I can see a difference in spark scatter compared to the rear mount).
Depending on your plug wires, you may have a problem with them reaching #8 plug.
if you have any problems feel free to contact me!

Do yourself a favor and part that stuff out and buy the Sitko drive. I have a BBC 1471 and bought the Pioneer and Keith Black set up. It was going to cost a bunch to change the blower snout add spacers etc and it's still in the way a bit. Sold it and had George make me one of his to fit my application. Sitko's is better in my opinion than RCD's because his drive bolts to the front cover and comes in the length you want so you don't have to buy fuel extention and quick release.

Ditto!, except the spark scatter. I can't say that we have scatter, but I have something like 15° of retard at idle. I can't seem to get rid of it.
Some competitors that run them also have this retard thing, you can hear the motor tone change when the throttle is ever so slightly pressed.

The feedback we have gotten from customers that have bought our mag drive is that the timing is the most stable they have ever had. That is our experience as well with our own cars.

I assume your talking to me and I've run 0 endplay with the same results. The only thing I have thought of and haven't tried is getting an oversized gear.

What I'd really like to do is data collect to see if it is moving/scattering? But by the time I pay for that I could have paid for something with a crank trigger and have it over with (I'm assuming timing control is most stable with a crank trigger???). Like a MSD 10+ or even an 8 vs my SM IV's.

    Mag Drive

Slightly different appliction, (chevy) but I want to put my vote in for the Sitko drive. George built me one a few years ago and its the best one out there. (can't count how many people have asked me in the pits about it.)

    My 2 Cents
