Pilko Sees Red as McClure Edges Closer!

Photo-17.jpg The final two rounds of the Motorplex Top Comp Championship will go down to the wire as Rob Pilkington walked away from the Westernationals with a second round exit despite qualifying third.

Pilkington’s loss came as a result of leaving the startline just five-hundredths of a second too early, bringing on the red light and giving the race away to non-championship contender, Dave Dequen.

However, in an ironic twist, Pilkington’s closest championship rival, Al McClure also bowed out in the second round with a slow launch from the startline handing the round win to eventual runner-up, Shane Weston.

“The fact that Big Al and myself both went out in the second round has really taken this title down to the wire, but really, it’s better to lose on a fault of the driver, than on a mystery fault in the car. The good news is that the car ran quicker than the national record on one occasion, so there’s nothing wrong with the Alutech Funnycar, it’s just that the driver was a little too eager,” said Pilkington, placing the blame squarely on his own shoulders.

With only two rounds remaining, the Alutech/CTS team will have to watch their back in order to defend their Top Comp State Title.

“You just can’t rest with this sport. We’ve never won any of our three championships easily, but this year is an absolute cracker, with not just Al, but Daniel Gregorini also looking to get in on the action.”

“We will just go out there this weekend and do what we do best, go quick, go fast and do it consistently. Oh... and also wait till the light turns green before I hit the gas!” he said, cracking a repentant smile.

The Alutech/CTS Team will embark on three rounds of qualifying this Saturday, with the first round of eliminations from 8.05pm.
