    Pilko Claims Championship Number Four!

nitromax1 (1).jpg Oakford Drag Racer Rob Pilkington has claimed his fourth West Australian Championship in six years, with a come-from-behind charge to overtake season long rival Al McClure on Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex.

Pilkington entered the event ten points behind McClure, leaving him to reserve his expectations for the runner-up spot, however a first round electrical failure for McClure offered Pilkington the title if only he could hold off Daniel Gregorini in third spot.

Then with a first round win against John Zappia, Pilkington secured his spot in the final, accruing enough points to claim the ten round championship regardless of the outcome.

“We are just elated to get championship number four, but I’d much rather had done it with Al running at his best as he has all season,” Pilkington conceded, honouring his season-long opponent for his fierce competition.

“Al’s a great guy and the best in his category in the nation, and for him to do something like forty flawless runs in the season, and have something small let him down right when it counted is a heartbreaker. We’re absolutely thrilled with the win though and this is just another testament to our major partners in Alutech, CTS Low Loaders, and Force Equipment and all our other partners, Perth Metro Building, RAE Motorsport , FLN repairs, Prestige Tile Gallery and Mobil 1.”

“But without a doubt, the credit goes to my crew who are almost like a full time professional team, because they know their individual jobs so well and their dedication to our success has bought them a slice of this championship. They really are amazing.”

With another championship notch on the belt, Pilkington is considering his off-season options before the fourteenth season of the Motorplex kicks off around late October.

“We’ve really worked hard this year and I’m honestly looking forward to the break. We will start pulling the car apart and storing everything in the next week while we’ve got some energy, but there’s a few thoughts floating around that we could go to Queensland for the Winternationals in June. Even if we do go, I’d still like to spend a few nights watching some TV because I haven’t done that for a long time. In fact I don’t even know if our TV even works!”
