Pilkington Advances to Second in Points Chase

nitromax1 (1).jpg After winning the Nitro Max event and hauling in the maximum points on offer, three time champion Rob Pilkington has advanced to the second spot in the Motorplex Top Comp points chase.

Pilkington defeated respected opponent, Al McClure in the final, allowing both racers to leapfrog previous leader Daniel Gregorini, and leaving McClure just five points ahead with four rounds remaining.

“Like Hannibal used to say on the A-Team, ‘I love it when a plan comes together,’ and everything we set out to achieve at the Nitro Max event we accomplished, so our confidence levels are brimming when you have a string of events when the car does exactly what you tell it to. In Drag Racing, there’s no better or more rewarding feeling for all the work that goes on in the workshop by all the team,” a buoyant Pilkington said.

And to add to the success of the weekend, Pilkington claimed Motorplex elapsed time and speed records, with a blistering 5.67 second pass at 252.10mph (405.71kph) cementing his name in the record books for AA/Funny Car.

“We’re really pumped after going to a new level in AA trim. It means we’re getting even more out of the combination at a lower spec, so that will help when we step back up to Top Alcohol conditions as well.”

The Alutech/CTS crew’s next opportunity to pounce on McClure will be this weekend, when the USA Jet Dragsters return to the Perth Motorplex along with the Aussie Bandit Wheelstanding Ute for the second “Night of Fire.”

“This weekend can’t come soon enough. We’re just itching to get on to the track and face whatever the weather conditions throw at us, because we will hopefully be able to draw on some data from earlier in the season and continue on the form we had at the last meeting. We’re right back in the zone!”
