Can anyone tell me what is involved in converting a standard length Reid case powerglide, to a shorty to suit a dragster?
Have been told that the gearset needs to be replaced with the shaft?
If this is the case, it is an expensive conversion.
    Thanks.

The output shaft on the planetary carrier needs to be shortened. Stock carriers can be cut and resplined. Some heavy duty aftermarket carriers feature bolt on output shafts that can be simply unbolted and replaced while other manufactures will weld the output plate to the carrier housing. Once you have a suitable planetary assembly all you need is a shorty cover.

    shorty

sco,it would be a lot simpler to swap carriers.take your gears out of the long shaft carrier, reinstall them into a shorty carrier, using the same ring and sun gears.remove your governor support and extension housing, replacing with a shorty cover, done deal.or if you have a bolt on shaft, just replace the shaft. hope his helps OTH
