I realize this ancient technology but I don't know where else to ask....hoping some of the guys have been through this or maybe someone's dad has, etc.

I have an old altered. I'd like to replace the BBC with my 392...just for the original and cool factor. The BBC makes 750 hp.

My parts- 392 stock bore and stroke
    -Hilborn stack
    -150 pump
    -Vertex
-HotHeads aluminum heads (kind of a souped up 555, I'm told)
-Donovan exhaust rockers but it's all stock ratio stuff.
-have a roller core for grind...researching specs.

I'm told the Hot Heads will handle about a .700 lift max with the valves that are available and stock ratio rockers.

Yet to order rods and pistons, after research...

What power does a 392 make on alcohol using stock type heads, stack injector, and .700 lift. (no nitro, conservative tune)

I have spoke with some of the well respected experts and the replies run from 600 to 700 to over 800 horsepower......almost no consensus.

    Thank you

Take a look at the November 2012 issue of Popular Hot Rodding. It has an article on the early Hemi from their 2011 AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge. Hot Heads, Gene Adams and several others built a gas, EFI ,straight stack masterpiece. Gene Adams and Hot Heads should be at the top of your list for information. I'm sure there will be several injected Hemi cars at Bakersfield CHHR and The March Meet next year. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I talked to both HH and Adams and even though they worked together on that engine they had the very widest apart estimates.......one very low numbers the other the very highest.

See what I mean when I say I've found almost no consensus?

They both mentioned the Enginemasters engine but felt it was too disamilar from from what I'm doing to use a reference mark.

    Thanks very much though

Claude Lavoie manufactures both aluminum and cast versions of the 392. His fuel funny car has run 5.70's so he knows. He can be reached at (780) 914-6656
    Have fun
