is there are simple tricks to removing o-rings from the block. i have got heads off and it appears o-rings are crushed more in certain areas than others . i am refreshing motor and using new gaskets. i had a bad torque wrench and heads were over torqued. o-rings are tight and tring to remove without damaged to deck surface.

I don't know how the machine shops do it but i've had good luck with using the corner of a small chisel. look real carefull and find the parting line and start there after doing one the rest will come easier.

Right.. small chisel edge, or punch sharpened. It is a pain in the ass. You will mark up the deck a little. Is what it is.
Don't get to worked up about it.
